Please Note

To achieve the items above we have replaced a local MS Access database with an MS SQL Server Compact Edition (CE) database. This in turn requires that SQL CE components be installed on each workstation. When Pulse Workspace is first activated it will check to confirm that SQL CE components are installed. If not you will be informed and the installation will automatically be activated. Please allow the installation to continue through to completion.

NB: Versions 4.0.28 thru 4.0.30 were internal testing versions only.

  1. The Function Sales Analysis report has been reinstated on the menu and revised for the new loyalty interface.

Pulse 32Bit Conversion Utility

For Pulse Workspace version 4 only.

The Pulse Software folder on the Start Menu has a new menu option titled: Pulse 32bit Conversion Utility. This utility will force Pulse Workspace to execute as a 32 bit process on 64 bit computers. This procedure will only be required when Pulse Workspace must access 32 bit DLL’s from 3rd party suppliers on 64 bit systems.

The procedure must be executed on your application server. That is, the computer on which the download from the Internet was performed.

This procedure should only be executed on instruction from Pulse support personnel. It must be re-executed every time the application is updated from the web.

Known applications that require this procedure to be executed are…

  • Golflink’s GLINK32.DLL

Pulse Workspace Version 4 64bit

With the advent of version 4, Pulse Workspace now executes as a native 64 bit process on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Server 2008 R2 computers without the need for the Windows On Windows (WOW64) emulator. Our endeavours will ensure the very best performance for you new hardware purchases.

Unfortunately not all software from other vendors is 64 bit ready. In particular, many printer driver software packages are not 64 bit enabled and therefore cannot be used in a 64 bit environment. For Pulse clients this includes line-of-business printers such as member card encoders / printers.

However, this should not slow your migration to Windows 7 64 bit. Microsoft ships a software add-on called Windows 7 XP Mode that allows you to configure your 32 bit printer drivers in a 32 bit environment yet use them from Windows 7 64 bit. It is a free software-only solution which means you do not have to invest in additional hardware. Once setup it is almost completely transparent to the user.

If you are planning a move to Windows 7, we suggest the following…

  1. Use the 64 bit version of the operating system wherever possible.
  2. Perform an inventory of all devices that will be connected to the new computers (printers, cameras, scanners etc).
  3. Ask your technician to verify your devices are 64 bit compatible.
  4. When compatibility issues arise, discuss with your technician the possibility of using Windows 7 XP Mode.

The computing world is rapidly embracing 64 bit environments. There is no reason that you should not do the same.
